What is digital accessibility?

Digital accessibility is a set of rules and best practices that cover functional, graphical, technical, and editorial aspects, among others.

Following these rules and best practices helps ensure that digital media (websites, mobile applications, PDF documents, etc.) are accessible to people with disabilities.

An accessible site allows, for example, to:

  • Customize its display via the operating system and/or browser (enlarging or reducing characters, changing typography, modifying colors, stopping animations, etc.).
  • Navigate using assistive technologies such as a screen reader or a Braille display.
  • Navigate without using a mouse, with the keyboard only, switches, or via a touch screen.
  • Consult videos and audio content using subtitles and/or transcriptions.
  • Etc.

Digital accessibility commitments

France Médias Monde is committed to making its websites (internet, intranet, and extranet), its mobile applications, its software packages, and its digital street furniture accessible in accordance with article 47 of law no2005-102 of February 11, 2005 (in French).

To this end, it implements the strategy and actions described in the document "Multiannual Accessibility Implementation Plan and Action Plan 2025-2027" (in French).

In order to achieve the best possible result, accessibility is taken into account by all teams (functional and graphic design, development, contribution, etc.) throughout the creation and maintenance of websites and mobile applications.

Additional remarks

Validity of the generated source code

The generated source code of the site pages is not fully valid according to the specified document type.

However, for the reasons mentioned below, RGAA criterion 8.2 corresponding to this point has been marked as compliant.

Officially, WCAG criterion 4.1.1 relating to this RGAA criterion 8.2 has been removed from WCAG 2.2 and must be considered as always satisfied with regard to WCAG 2.1 as well as the European standard EN 301 549.

In practice, this criterion no longer has any benefit for accessibility for people with disabilities. Any accessibility problems arising from the non-validity of the generated source code are covered by other RGAA criteria.
